Maybe I'm changing my mind on AT Proto... currently it's not as decentralized as ActivityPub, for sure, but the design looks solid enough to allow some level of decentralization. The account migration stuff and the use of DNS/DID for identity management are pretty good. One of the worst design decisions of AP was tying your identity to your instance. Bluesky also has algorithmic feeds (which I don't see as inherently bad), and a better network.
I used to be very hostile to AT Proto (although I did actively use Bluesky) due to it not being actually decentralized, Jack Dorsey stuff, VC money... All of these still apply, but it looks much more promising. Jack Dorsey jumped to nostr (which to be fairly honest I think is really good, if not for the awful crypto-centric network), and they're actually doing work to allow decentralization (it looks fairly easy to self-host PDSs and use non-PLC DIDs). The VC money is still a massive red flag, but alas.
I'll read some other stuff on AT Proto before actually making a choice.
